We were approached by our client to turn a difficult site in downtown Wellington into a temple to gin, whisky and cured meats. The Hudson occupies a 1927 commercial building and has two floors – ground floor is for coffee, craft beer and gin (around 40 at the last count), while upstairs is a shrine to whisky and cocktails. Both are served by a dedicated charcuterie counter.
A mix of old-meets-new pays homage to the history of the space, originally an import business, we stripped back some frankly bizarre earlier renovations to showcase the beauty of the building. We were lucky with having some great tradies on board, who went above and beyond to deliver what has become a bit of a jewel in Wellington’s hospo crown. Much like the chandeliers we chose.
